Ed Blake− CJSF 90.1 FM in Burnaby & CFRO 102.7 FM in Vancouver

Do thrift stores hold a golden treasure trove of great music? Ed Blake thinks so. He's not just talking about the occasional overlooked classic. It's the obscurities that interest him most. Long forgotten records that yield up hidden gems or bizarre artifacts of days past. Each week the best and the oddest of these are featured on his weekly program Snuff , heard each Friday night from 6 PM to 8 PM on Vancouver's CJSF 90.1 FM.

He started his path in campus radio with a New Year's resolution twenty years ago to simply get involved. Shortly afterwards he walked into Windsor's CJAM Radio and has been an on-air host in one form or ever since. Now based in Vancouver Blake currently hosts two other radio programs in addition to Snuff. Also at CJSF he makes a monthly appearance on Esoterica , an audio art program heard Wednesdays at 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM regularly hosted by Cealen Griffiths. At Vancouver's Co-Op Radio CFRO 102.7 FM Blake hosts The Broken Record Show every second Wednesday at 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM showcasing a wide selection of current indie releases.

Although Blake's music tastes are all over the place he particularly favors the music of Sandy Nelson, Armageddon, Art Zoyd, Goddo, Nurse with Wound, Frank Zappa, Neu, Big Black and Bubble Puppy. Every few months he does a huge Chrome feature and at New Years he does a Led Zepplin show. Blake likes campus radio because "Too many DJs are only too happy to play cds, do their backsells and list the name of the band and the song name. I find that really dull radio. For me c/c radio is a place where me, you or whoever can editorialize about the music we just played. It doesn't have to be 7 minute earnest scholarly speeches or 250 slobbering fanboy adjectives. 20 words about why you like or played that song is a good start." In addition to his on air duties, Blake is also the Music Director at CJSF.

Blake's radio programs can be heard online at: http://www.cjsf.ca and http://www.vcn.bc.ca/cfro
