Top 3 records of the year
Olivier Desmet - 1+1 – (Amenti Music)
This has got to be the most amazing collaboration of smooth house and deep soulful bits in a long time. With artists such as Oriental Funk Stew, Chuck Diesel, B McCarthy, Spettro and Chris Lum it’s a stellar combination. It's much like Nordic Trax's Necessary Pieces from years ago, brilliant!

King Britt - Late Night with King Britt – (Swank)
On his second chapter of the Late Night series we hear more melodic sounds and heavenly voices spread throughout the mix cd. Although the mixing seems to stray away from his usual perfection I forgive that and concentrate on the fantastic selection of songs. Plantlife and Solu Music make the top favorites with their enchanting rhythms and broken beat signature style of arrangements.

Gavin Froome - Underground Heroes – (Nordic Trax)
I've always found Froome to be an innovative and sometimes daring producer when it comes to underground house music. His styles on this album are fresh which makes it nice for new and old floors and for people who aren't necessarily knowledgeable of house making it easy to swing them into any groove.

Most under-rated record of the year
Some of the Fabric Series cds, DJ Heather, Diplo, Rob da Bank, seems like people aren't
that interested in just picking up the Fabric experience anymore, at least by the way reviewers write them up.

Most over-rated record of the year
Green Day, come on now folks, who are they trying to kid, they've gone corporate!

Best local release
Lampshade - Modern Behavior - Vinyl Republik
Paul Shrofel is Winnipeg’s hidden jem. His sensible nature and knowledge of jazz piano mixed with the synthesis of electronic music combines to form a wonderful listening experience. New to the Vinyl Republik label Paul shows his talents through vibrant compositions through his expressive piano and keyboard skills. In addition the samplers and drum machines conduct the backbone and structure which he also created. Although this studio knowledge didn’t come quickly he had the watchful eye of Precursor Productions Andrew Yankiwski (FLFK) to guide his ears in the right direction to make this quality creation of delightful sounds. Fans of Ninja Tune, Portishead and various other new wave electronic bands will take pleasure in this album.

Best personal campus/community radio moment
Getting some new blood in the office, with a new Manager, Assistant and new staff from the
community and University of Manitoba it'll  create some new interest and power more longevity for the station.

Record you are most anticipating for 2006
Northern Faction 3, the Balanced crew has been slowly growing a great base of electronic
artists in Winnipeg and beyond so I hope I can be greeted by some nice deep, atmospheric and obscure tracks.
