Photon Band
Back Down To Earth
Empyrean
Led by Art Difuria (Lilys), the Photon Band are pop flipside of the modern day psyche movement that includes everyone from Acid Mothers Temple to Comets on Fire. Their first in about six years, Back Down To Earth, blends a lo-fi space rock swirl with Lennon/McCartney melodies straight from the get-go with the title track. From there they’re standing next to Hendrix’s fire on "Ka-Blammo," and for the next several tracks, the idea of writing good songs as well as freaking us out, man, seems like a winner. Near the back half of the record, though, the good songwriting element slowly diminishes; the last three tracks trade in the same style but lack the hooks. In that way, Back Down To Earth is front-loaded – so pay less mind to the back half, because the front half is worth it.
