If you want to have Juno and Latin Grammy award winning, singer/songwriter and musician Alex Cuba give you a personal concert; you only need to put his latest release Sublime on the player.  The album sounds intimate and passionate, two of Alex Cuba’s trademarks. Couple that with exemplary guitar playing, infectious rhythm and you’re transported to Latin America or anywhere else he wants to take you.

Alex Cuba has a reputation for excellence in song writing and collaboration.  He’s called upon some heavy hitters to join him on this album, highlighting a contemporary version of the Canción Latinamericana.

Sublime kicks off with the lively “Yo No Sé” (I Don’t Know) before really delivering that folksy vibe in “Cantando de Alergia” where singing of love and joy is the rule.

“Cuidad Hembra (La Habana) is the first of six duets on the album.  It is a song to Havana and is a standout track. Alex has called upon Cuban native son Kelvis Ochoa, who is well known for mixing traditional with contemporary and is a perennial favourite among youthful listeners.  Together they deliver a musical picture of La Habana.

Alex has brought in young vibrant artists like Silvana Estrada and Alex Ferreira to mix with artists who have had long and storied careers such as Omara Portuondo (Bueno Vista Socail Club) and Pablo Milanés who is considered to be one of the founders of the nueva trova of the 60’s.

The album concludes with  “Hoy Como Ayer” a beautiful duet with Pablo Milanés that carries the sentiment that today as yesterday you can continue to look to the future without fear and with love.

Alex Cuba is an artist that has a vision for Latin music of the future that artfully incorporates threads of tradition and it’s Sublime.
