10. Tell me about your Offensive Orange music project. How did you guys get together and stuff?

David: Offensive Orange is Hamilton's only no rock band, formed by myself and Matthew Boughner in the summer of 2004. We met a few years ago when I moved to Hamilton. Matthew works in the Sonic Unyon record store so it wasn't long before we started talking about music together. Matt has turned me on to a lot of really great music and I've learned much from playing with him. We improvised a few times enjoyably, with both of us playing prepared and processed guitars. We decided it would be fun to shape something in the vein of Suicide or Throbbing Gristle or Wolf Eyes, with vague song structures though still wholly improvised. We wanted to play in local clubs on rock bills so we invented this "no rock" genre where we basically could paint something a little less serious.

11. Do you enjoy playing solo sets? How would they differ from collaborating in a live setting? Do you find it easier to play solo with another?

David: Playing live is great fun. I don't really approach it any different than when I play at home, except that there's sometimes more people there. It's more stressful/difficult when there is another person or persons involved. It obviously lacks the control one has when playing alone. Playing with others: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But I find rewarding the increase in accidents and chance occurrences. It's a chance to lead or be led or respond or not respond.

12. Do you have any other collaborations or music projects in the works?

David: I've played - both in a live setting and just jamming - with a few other local artists, most of which has been generally successful so that will probably continue. Offensive Orange continues to play shows in/around the Hamilton area pretty consistently and we will continue to record/release material on a pretty regular basis. We maybe be looking at expanding our Middle James Co in the near future but that remains to be seen.

What kind of future plans do you have musically?

David: Vague plans for Offensive Orange to head to the US sometime in the near future. I have been releasing my solo material on recycled cassettes and that's something I'll continue to do. Play some solo shows here/there. Check out www.myspace.com/offensiveorange for latest updates/available recordings.
