Adam Fox
 Adam Fox
My name is Adam Fox and I am the Music Programming Director for CJAM 91.5 FM Windsor/Detroit. I co-host a music variety program with Sean Barry on Thursday afternoons and I predict 2006 will reveal some awesome musical talent from Windsor. Keeps ears open for yellow wood, measured in angles, ron leary, and bloem fontein.
My Top 3 records of the year
1) The National Alligator (Beggars Banquet)
Because Rock Music Can Be Both Literate And Beautiful.
2) M.I.A. Arular (Xl): Resist Those Knee-Jerk Reactions To Hate... This Record Can Incite Both Riots And Parties.
3) Bettye Lavette I've Got My Own Hell To Raise (Anti): Perfect Production By Joe Henry… Lavette's Voice Is A Revelation.
Most under-rated record of the year
IdahoThe Lone Gunman (Retrophonic): Jeff Martin (No... Not That Jeff Martin) Proves With Each Record His Accession Of Eno's Throne.
Most over-rated record of the year
a two-way tie:
Broken Social Scene S/T (Arts And Crafts): A Fine - If Dense And Often Muddy - Indie Rock Record, But The Contents Within Warrant Nowhere Near The Hyperbole Foisted On This Collection Of Toronto 30-Somethings.
Metric Live Out Loud (Last Gang): Two Words: Painfully Mediocre. Good Thing Emily's Hip And Gorgeous, Otherwise This Banal Foursome Would Be Opening For Pilate.
Best local release
Dean Drouillard Dream At Harmony Motel (Drou Music): Ok, He Lives In Toronto These Days, But This Ex-Windsorite Made A Fantastic Record In 2005. Dean Often Gets Compared To Elliot Smith, But In His Defense He's Been A Rabid Beatles Fan Since Day One. His Duet With Jill Barber Is Not To Be Missed.
Best personal campus/community radio moment or experience of the year.
Broadcasting FUSE-IN the Detroit International Electronic Music Festival. Stressful, but rewarding.
Record you are most anticipating for 2005:
ten year drought's new record.... riiiiiiiight. |
