The Baking Underground

Vegan baking makes for great radio and great rock'n roll

Mat and Dave
Let's Get Baked with Mat and Dave is
about more than just baking
"What's more exciting than music and food? They are arguably the two best things in the universe". That's the world view of the guys behind Let's Get Baked with Mat and Dave.

So, of course, it makes perfect sense that they would create a radio show that combines their two passions. It is a vegan baking show where they bring in a different musical guest each week to bake with them in their kitchen. "We have live kitchen performances as well as cook book reviews and man on the street interviews." Mat and Dave are Mat Dunlap and Dave Ewenson and the show is rounded out with announcer Tom Westoll. "Our most important features are provided by Tom," says Dave. "He gives the listeners interesting food and music facts throughout each episode."

...a merger between a cool band and a surprisingly hot recipe A great show requires the same magic as great cooking. "The best episodes come out of a merger between a cool band and surprisingly hot recipes," explains Dave. Some highlights include making vegan corn dogs with B.A. Johnston and the Whitey Houston Gravy episode with Wavy Gravy.

Beyond their broadcasting efforts, Mat and Dave are active in the Halifax arts and music scene. Mat is a photographer while Dave plays in The Sweet Tenders and the City Field. There are also part of a Halifax based music collective and label called Just Friends Records. "Also, our kitchen is open for touring bands coming through Halifax , we know you are poor and tired and hungry," says Dave. "Let us feed you."

You can find about more about Lets Get Baked, including recipes, photos and more , on their website www.letsgetbaked.ckdu.ca .. The show can be heard on Halifax 's CKDU 97.5FM each Thursday from 5pm to 6pm or online at www.ckdu.ca . It is also now syndicated on several other Maritimes station an on CiTR in Vancouver . Let's Get Baked is also available as a podcast from their website.
