Oft-known as Jetone, this is Tim Hecker's first album under his given name for the Substractif subdivision of Alien8 Records. Hecker is a seasoned artist that has made contributions aplenty to remarkable labels worldwide, including the Force Inc. division of Mille Plateaux and Tiger Beat 6.
This outing is a sweet one - moving away from beat-driven production and into the stratosphere of fuzzed-out ambience with a melody. Created with a guitar, laptop and piano, this album is a real beauty and a fine introduction to the sweet sounds of the young Substractif catalogue. What makes Haunt Me...
a thing of beauty besides the music itself are the song titles. "Boreal Kiss" and "The Work of Art in the Age of Cultural Over Production" both stand out, and are evocative. If "Boreal Kiss" is not a poetic nod to Gas' Konigforst
album, then at the very least "The Work of Art..." and "Boreal Kiss" shine through with a thoughtfulness that contributes to the long-lasting effects of each particular song and, beating the odds with the album overall.
