Best of 2004

controller.controller - history

This is probably the best post-punk band that has put out a record in the last 5 years, and the energy of the live show is completely translated to the record

Wu-Tang Clan - Legend: The greatest hits of the Wu-Tang Clan

Sure we've heard all these songs before and there isn't a single new track on this record, but a greatest hits from the wu has been a Long Time coming. It does a great job of putting together some of their lesser known tracks like Protect Ya Neck with their biggest and best like Shame on a Nigga.

Frank Black - Frank Black Francis - 4AD

If you have heard the Demo Disc then you know nothing needs to be said. The other Disc is a little lacking though

Classified - Trial and Error

Now that Class has better production he can show off some more of his skill. The record is better produced and more cohesive than anything G-Unit or any other Big Money MC from the States has put out.

Most Under-Rated Record of the Year

Shotgun & Jaybird Sackville Classics for the Simple Ukelele Self Released

These two guys are some of the best songwriters in Canada . The albums is simple yet feels totally complete

Most Over-Rated Record of the Year

Lloyd Banks and Franz Ferdinand (these are cop-out answers)

Best Local Release - Sackville.

i was a spy - ... until i was 10 - The Campaign

This Cape Breton (now 2/3 residing in Sackville) is one of the tightest bands on the East Coast today. In a landscape dominated by jam bands like Jimmy Swift and Grand Theft Bus, i was a spy "prog-punk" songs about beautiful girls and the places they love are both fresh and technically awesome. Seeing them live is an experience, each member of the band awes without stepping on each other, and this, like controller.controller , is an energy that is translated to the record.

Most Anticipated Record for 2004

Propagandhi 's Rumbleseat . Now too many years in the making, Propagandhi has been making great music for a long time and are probably one of the most important bands both behind the scenes for other bands, and for making Canadian Music. I'm hoping for another Hallie Does Hebron ... Politically Charged and a song that you can dance to.
