The Best, The Worst and the Rest
Best of 2004 1. Lil Pocket Knife - Pants Control - Narnack Abrasive. Annoying. Addictive as sin. 2. Tilly and the Wall - Wild Like Children - Team Love Tap dancing percussion. That's enough right there. 3. The Arcade Fire - Funera l - Merge --CC Orchestral, sweeping, and also just plain raucous. Oh, and its going to be on everyone else's lists, so I didn't want to be different. j/k. Most Under-Rated Record of the Year Immaculate Machine Transporter - Indie CC Because I once saw them play in Halifax until the cops came and shut it down. Because they toured for months to great response. And its a great record...with ballads and everything. Indie too. Most Over-Rated Record of the Year Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat - RoughTrade The media and public explosion over this record screams of an emporer and his new clothes complex. Maybe I just didn't get it. Best Local Release - Halifax Brent Randall and his Pinecones Quite Precisely Brent Randall Just Friends--CC The Just Friends recording collective are new in Halifax , but already in the last year have put out 6 releases, Brent's being a favourite. Its organ/piano pop with unique vocals and a sort of lounge style. Most Anticipated Record for 2005 The new Crooked Fingers record. I've loved all of his albums, so I'm expecting great things. Take me away Eric Bachman. Best Personal Campus/Community Radio Moment Or Experience of the Year.
