The Daisy.Anthesis ( )
Surface And The SkyDiminished Fifth ( http://www.diminishedfifthrecords.com/ @D5records )
I really have to wonder what this band sounded like as an acoustic duo which is how they started out. I’m sure it would have been a completely different animal than the one represented here. Surface and Sky is the deathy side of death-core without all the slick production that most deathcore acts bring today. That’s a plus for The.Daisy.Anthesis by the way. Death metal became too polished and too over produced in the 2000’s and the deathcore kids took that a step beyond. The.Daisy.Anthesis keeps the rough edge to the production and gives the sound a really deep resonant tone. The songs don’t sound clean and mechanical; dirty and organic is what you get here. No clean singing on the record thankfully and at times the screams wander into black metal territory. Not anything new necessarily, but it does add another interesting twist to a band working within a relatively stale genre.
Surface and Sky is a pretty decent debut record and I think The.Daisy.Anthesis have potential to take themselves, not necessarily their genre, to the next level. I do think though, they may need to work a little on their song writing to make things less predictable and a further developing of the more progressive end of their writing might be just the ticket.
