My Top 3 records of the year

Lean Left, I Forgot to Breathe, (Trost Records)
The Ex guitarists plus Paal Nilsson-Love from The Thing and Ken Vandermark on sax equals chaos, beautiful chaos.

Peter Brotzmann/Heather Leigh, Sex Tape, (Trost Records)
Heather Leigh pulls out a more emotional and subtle performance from Peter Brotzmann, who is known for usually a more aggressive saxophone performance

Guerilla Toss, GT Ultra, (DFA Records)
A very underrated album, a great blend of avant-garde and pop. It's got off the wall performances and catchy melodies that will stick in your head.

Best local release

1971, no matter where you go, there you are, (Self-Released)
This is a sad one, the last recordings with their bass player, Cam Cranston, before he tragically passed away last year. This shows the true talent that 1971 had, and Anxiety (In The Depths of Northwestern Ontario) is one of the best songs ever written.

Best live show you saw this year

Propagandhi – local favourities, always the best

Most under-rated record of the year

Guerilla Toss, GT Ultra, (DFA Records)
Such an amazing album, not sure why more people aren’t talking about it.

Most over-rated record of the year

Protomartyr, Relatives in Descent, (Domino)
Too many people talking about how great it is, found it very boring and cliché.

Best personal campus/community radio moment or experience of the year

Finally finding a local free jazz group to have live on my show. Skronkbash!
